Formulas can be
related to most of everything we do in life. I used to think formulas were only
for math problems and science. However in reality life is about science, so why
wouldn’t formulas be related to reality television? Back in the day reality TV was thought to be
for one hit wonders or struggling celebrities whose careers were going down the
drain. Celebrities now have started to get on the gravy train and use reality
TV to promote their products; this is the formula that coincides with reality
television. Celebrities know that if they use the right formula their reality
TV shows will create a river of gold, (news.com.au).
The theory that applies to formulas
in reality TV is cultivation. The producers of these reality TV shows know that
if the cast promotes their products whether it is a line of clothing, food,
partying, or how to lose weight there will be a genre that relates to each
category. For example, if I am an individual who is overweight and wants to
lose weight I am going to be drawn to shows like The Biggest Loser to inspire
my, or if I am into fashion and looking beautiful I am going to be drawn to
shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Cultivation describes my topic
of Reality TV because today reality television is one of the highest grossing,
fastest growing, and most popular genre of shows today that include hundreds of
different topics. Again all this circles back around to formulas, without a
formula for success reality TV wouldn’t be what it is today.
After doing research into
formulas of reality TV and what makes them popular I realized that most of the
products people buy is influenced by reality TV shows. I understand why this
happens, many viewers are moved by the reality shows that they are drawn to so
they go out and buy the products being made and promoted by the cast and
producers of reality TV shows. For example Bethany Frankel who starred on the
Real Housewives of New York started the Skinny Girl line of alcohol. The Skinny
Girl Margarita was actually recommended to me by a friend who watched series of
The Real Housewives of New York that Bethany Frankel starred in, (news.com.au).
